Victor Papanek was a designer and educator who advocated socially and ecologically responsible design. His philosophy stated that design which was simply technical or merely style-oriented is useless, harmful, and out of touch with what people need.
The still above comes from the Facebook Page for Beware of Images, a feature-length documentary about the history of visual representation and its impact on our social, ecological and financial problems.
As someone who believes women’s body image and self-esteem issues are largely a result of the commercial images we see, I can’t wait to watch the documentary and report back with a review.

Is the documentary out yet? I’d LOVE to get my hands on it as well. What a powerful quote from Mr. Papanek.
I was all ready to go watch it and realized it is still in the making. Check out the website: bewareofimages.com
